Warden warning

A MAN claiming he is Craigavon Borough Council's dog warden is approaching people and demanding money.

The Council has reminded residents that their officers carry official identification and will always produce this for inspection.

Last week, a man approached a young girl walking her dog in Westland Road, Portadown claiming he was the dog warden for the Council.

He told the girl that she was not licenced and demanded 50, which the girl refused to pay.

Chairman of Environmental Services Councillor Johnny McGibbon said: “We take this very seriously and are indebted to the mother who reported this to us. Our dog warden and indeed all of our officers carry official identification and will gladly produce this on request.

“We do not demand money on the street from anyone – it’s not how Council does business. I would advise that if anyone is approached in this manner ask for identification or just move on."

The Council has reiterated that officers carry identification.

Some Council Officers wear tops or shirts with the council logo on them.
