Wardens to crack down on illegal parking in city centre

It’s hoped the move will stop drivers parking in disabled bays, loading bays, the taxi rank, bus stop and also on footpaths.

Warning motorists to be aware that “enforcement will begin almost immediately”, DUP Cllr Scott Carson said: “I have raised the issue of parking enforcement a number of times with TransportNI over the past number of months regarding the area around the Linen Museum and Bow Street. Unfortunately, many drivers were parking in disabled bays, loading bays, the taxi rank, bus stop and also the footpaths around Market Square. Due to the installation of incorrect lineage and signs in sections this resulted in no enforcement being taken against these vehicles.

“I am pleased that having lobbied the Minister and officials, along with council officers, we have now received an assurance from TransportNI that parking enforcement will begin almost immediately.

“As such the restrictions around Market Square and Bow Street will be in place and motorists should be aware.”

The Lisburn North representative added: “For too long vehicles have been parked inappropriately for long durations causing unnecessary inconvenience to pedestrians and other road users. This long overdue advancement is very welcome at a time when the pedestrian area in the centre of Lisburn will become its busiest in the run up to Christmas.”
