Waringstown WI get kurling

PRESIDENT Elizabeth Quigg welcomed visitors from the Dollingstown WI to the Waringstown Women's Institute February meeting.

The mysteries of the kurling mat were explained and folk split up into teams to ‘have a go’. This modern version of an old sport was fun whether spectating or participating.

‘Staines’ on ball bearing wheels hurtled around the hall, some delivered with great expertise while others caused those watching to move quickly out of the way!

The eventual winners were Mary Mitchell (Whitehall) and Liz Trimble (Waringstown). A delicious supper was then served before some business was covered.

Club members ware saddened to be told of the death of Mrs Janet Jordan, a much loved founder member and former President of the Institute.

Several members had attended her recent funeral.

A beautiful hand made doll’s house was also on display. This will be raffled to raise funds for the Waringstown Institute’s charity for the year ‘Diabetes UK’.
