Warke backs callfor rescue funding

DUP Councillor Graham Warke has backed a council motion calling on central government to provide more money for the vital work that Foyle Search and Rescue provide for the city.

“Only last weekend another life has been saved by volunteers from this rescue charity,” he said.

“This year alone from January 1 to June 20, 34 people have been taken out of the River Foyle, 25 people have been taken away from the river edge, 30 causes of concern, two bodies have been recovered this year.

“The people who volunteer, day and night are true heroes of the community. FS&R have saved many lives and brought comfort to many bereaved families.

“The DUP welcome the motion and also Gary Middleton MLA will be requesting the Health Minister Simon Hamilton to visit the organisation,” he added.
