Warm welcome for extension to quarry

A warm welcome awaited approval of an extension to Clinty Quarry by planners at last Thursday night’s Public Sector Liaison Committee meeting of Ballymena Borough Council.

The application by James Stevenson (Quarries Ltd.), which received one letter of support, proposes an extension at the Doury Road based quarry which includes (planning approved) consolidation and deepening of extraction operations and also provision of settlement lagoons, landscaping and site restoration.

Welcoming its approval, Alderman Maurice Mills said the quarry had a long history and had provided much employment for the borough over many years.

“This development will further add to our industrial base in the town,” said Mr Mills who was supported in his remarks by Deputy Mayor, Alderman Robin Cherry.
