Warmest September in ten years
Armagh Observatory reports that September was much warmer than average, with a mean monthly temperature 1.5 C higher than the most recent (1981-2010) 30-year average.
It was also duller than average, with just 91.1 hours of strong sunshine. This is just 80% of the most recent (1981-2010) 30-year average number of hours of strong September sunshine at Armagh and the dullest September for eight years.
This month, with a mean temperature of 14.8 C, was the warmest September at Armagh since 2006, and the third warmest September on record at Armagh, shared with 1846, that is, since daily measurements of air temperature began at Armagh in December 1794.
The warmest day (highest maximum air temperature) was 23.1 C, which occurred on the 5th; and the second warmest day was 23.0 C on the 6th.
