Warning about bogus collectors

A WARNING has been issued about bogus collectors operating in Lurgan.

It's believed two men have been approaching businesses in Mourneview claiming to be collecting on behalf of Portadown Rugby Club.

The club's president John Anderson told the 'MAIL': "These people are not associated with our club. This sort of thing is not something our club would do, especially on someone else's patch.

"Our bar manager got a call from someone in Lurgan to find out if we were aware of this collection. He explained it was nothing to do with us. We're quite concerned as these people are using the club's name."

He warned businesses and members of the public to be on the look out for the fraudsters.

Anybody who believes they have encountered a bogus collector should contact police on 0845 600 8000 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
