Warning after gas cylinder alert

POLICE are urging parents to speak to their children about the very real dangers associated with the misuse of gas following an incident in which a pipe was pulled from a gas cylinder in Portstewart .

The police praised a local resident who raised the alarm around 10:20 pm on Monday, March 1after seeing a number of young people run off from a house in town’s Station Road and noticing gas escaping from the cylinder.

Detective Inspector, Sean Fitzpatrick, said: “Pulling the pipe from the gas cylinder was an extremely stupid and dangerous thing to do and could have had serious consequences for those concerned and the householder.”

Members of the Fire And Rescue Service were called to the scene and made the cylinder safe.
