Warning after handbag theft

PARENTS collecting their children from school have been reminded to secure their valuables and keep them out of sight.

The warning comes after a mother collecting her child from St Mary's school in Derrytrasna had her handbag snatched from her car after she left a window open.

A small amount of cash, bank cards and a mobile phone were among the items in the bag.

Councillor Mary McAlinden said parents need to be vigilant, especially in the good weather.

She said: "You never think it would happen in the rural areas, but when a thief spots a chance he will take it.

"Parents need to be vigilant and make sure their valuables are safe and secure and out of sight when they leave their car to collect children from school."

Local police have issued numerous warnings in the past telling people not to leave valuables on display in their cars.

They have also warned about leaving the keys in vehicles.
