Warning after suspicious approach

POLICE have issued a warning about stranger danger to parents after a five year old boy was approached by a man in Donaghcloney on Monday, 10 June.

The boy was approached by the man at Demesne Field at around 7pm and managed to run off when he was asked to accompany him to a local shop.

Police described the man as being approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, of slim build with brown skin and having dark hair which is kept short and spiked.

The police also added that he spoke with a foreign accent and was wearing black and blue tracksuit bottoms, a white and blue T-shirt and skinny shoes.

Constable Rainey, of Craigavon Response, said, “It is important that this incident is looked at in perspective, however all parents should speak to their children about the importance of keeping safe and not speaking to strangers.

“In this instance the child did the right thing and made his way home straight away.”

The mayor of Craigavon, Mark Baxter, also expressed his worries at the recent developments and urged all members of the community to remain vigilant.

“As a parent of two small children my thoughts are with the parents of this young child who I’m sure are full of ‘what if’s’.”

“As a member of the local Policing and Community Safety group, I will be raising this with the area commander to see what extra precautions have been put in place in terms of extra police patrols.”

The police have asked anyone with information in relation to this incident to please contact them in Lurgan on 0845 600 8000.
