Warning issued as ‘Clodagh’ sweeps in

Storm Clodagh moved in over the weekend, leaving many areas rain soaked and windswept.

The Met Office issued a yellow warning for severe gales with gusts up to 60mph for exposed areas.

A yellow warning means plan ahead and consider possible travel delays and disruption.

Police in Lisburn also issued a warning to motorists over the weekend to reduce their speed and stay safe on the roads.

“Wind and heavy rain across Northern Ireland today making driving conditions hazardous,” PSNI Lisburn wrote on their Facebook page on Sunday (November 29).

The police also received reports of trees being felled in the area as a result of the strong winds.

“We are also getting reports of fallen trees in some areas, including on Old Coach Road, Hillsborough, Lurgan Road, Glenavy and Crumlin Road, Lisburn,” a spokesperson for the police explained.

Storm Clodagh, the third major storm this winter, moved across Ireland and into Scotland at the beginning of the week.

During the height of the storm, police advised motorists to be cautious when driving.

“Please slow down, use your lights and drive with extra care and attention,” added the police in Lisburn,

There were also reports of black outs at the weekend. NIE recently reassured customers that they were preparing for the impact of storms hitting the Province.
