Warning on scrambler use

After the tragic incident where a woman was killed after being struck by a scrambler bike at Colin Glen Forest Park, the ABC Council has said the safety of the public using it's parks and open spaces is '˜of paramount importance'.

A spokesperson said: “We have been working in close partnership with the PSNI to tackle the issue of off-road vehicles in parks. This year a number of people have been prosecuted and their vehicles confiscated.

“We have also taken steps to prevent vehicles accessing public parks by making adjustments to entrance gates.

“The driving of vehicles of this kind contravenes council byelaws and those taking part will be prosecuted.

“We would urge parents not to purchase vehicles of this kind for children unless they are joining a motorsports club or using a site that has been adapted for such use.”
