Was a well known Loughbrickland farmer

THE passing has taken place at Daisy Hill Hospital, Newry, of Mr Samuel Alexander Geoghegan (81) of Dunboy House, 50 Legananny Road, Loughbrickland.

Sam, as he was affectionately known, was the son of the late Samuel and Caroline Geoghegan and in his youth had farmed extensively around the Loughbrickland area, only retiring a short time ago.

He had been a long-term member of Loughbrickland 173 Royal Blue Masonic Lodge, joining in 1954 and was a regular attender and supporter of Aghaderg Parish Church while health permitted. He was also a member of the Select Vestry of the church and had held office.

He suffered the loss of his only sister Betty some years ago and his survived by one brother, Bryce; sister-in-law, Mabel; nephews, nieces and extended family.

The funeral took place on Monday, 28 December, from his home for a service in Aghaderg Parish Church, where the Rev Peter Thornbury paid a fitting tribute to Sam’s life.

The hymns, ‘The Lord’s My Shepherd’ and ‘The Day Thou Gavest Lord is Ended’ were sung, with Mrs McCullough presiding at the organ.

Family flowers were placed on the grave and donations in lieu are being sent to William Bell and Co., funeral directors, 23 Kenlis Street, Banbridge, for Aghaderg Parish Church.
