After becoming aggressive towards police a 21-year-old man pushed an officer, Banbridge Magistrates Court heard last Thursday.

Dean McConnell, College Square East, Bessbrook, admitted disorderly behaviour at the Belmont Hotel, Banbridge, and assault on police on October 26 last year.

For each offence he was given a conditional discharge for 12 months.

The court heard that police were dealing with an aggressive male when the defendant became involved.

Police asked him to stand back but he told them to ‘f—k off’ and began acting aggressively before pushing an officer. He continued to shout abuse.

A solicitor representing McConnell said he had a disagreement with a friend and police intervened. They tried to move him away and the assault was only pushing.
