Jason Harper, Hunters Hill Park, Gilford, was fined £150 last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court for disorderly behaviour on August 7 this year.

Fines of £50 were imposed for resisting a constable, obstructing a constable and unlawful possession of a class C drug, zopiclone.

He was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that police were called to Hunters Hill Park because of an ongoing fight.

They found Harper standing topless in the street and he was asked to calm down.

He then gave police a false name.

Harper began shouting and swearing at officers and was arrested for disorderly behaviour.

He immediately began to struggle with police.

The zopiclone tablet was found in his wallet.

A solicitor representing the defendant said Harper had been at a party at a friend’s house and on returning home he was attacked by two males.

She added that it was the defendant’s partner who called the police.

The solicitor explained that Harper, who had alcohol taken, was frustrated because he could not understand why he was being arrested and not his attackers.

She said that the zopiclone was a sleeping tablet which had been proscribed to a friend.

Harper suffered from insomnia and wanted to try this tablet.
