Waste no Times Project moves into second phase

The Waste no Time Project that began way in January is now moving into its second phase with new opportunities for even more people to get involved and have their say about what they like, what they need and what good ideas they have for the Causeway Coast and Glens area.

For the last six months, the project has been out and about across the new Council area with a short outdoor performance and a pop-up café for people to come and chat about what matters to them in their communities, what they are proud of, and their bright ideas for what their new Council should be doing.

Karin Eyben of Corrymeela, who has been leading this project, said: “So far we have done 21 Street Performances and/or Pop Up Cafes; engaged with 600 people face-to-face; received 165 completed surveys and 100 postcards. Our huge 4.5 by 6 metre map has been unrolled and rolled up 30 times from Ballykelly to Rathlin, and from Cushendall to Ballymoney and we have learned so much about our new Council area and the people who live here.

“Thanks to partner organization, Beyond Skin, we have even composed the Citizen of the Opera, a short operatic interpretation of what we have done so far. We always hoped that this project would use creative ways of engaging with people and getting the messages they give us out there to the wider public – I hope everyone agrees that we have been doing exactly that!”

Aidan Campbell of Rural Community Network added: “The drama and the creativity doesn’t end there! Now that we are moving into phase two of the project we need more citizens to come forward to help us write a play which will be performed in the council and in the community and showcase all that we have learned. So, if you live and/or work in the C area, we would love you to come along to the Sandel Centre on Saturday 17th September to get involved!.”
