Watch: Crashed van set alight in Ardboe, two men sought by police

A police investigation is underway after a van crashed and was then set alight in Ardboe on Saturday.

It is understood that two men were seen inside the vehicle shortly before it went on fire.

Reports suggest that there were diesel or fuel containers inside the van.

The vehicle was a navy Transit van and it had been seen in the Kinrush Road area earlier that evening with two men inside,” said a PSNI spokesman.

“It was reported on fire just after 9pm. One of the men had a beard and was wearing a black t-shirt and jeans. The other man was wearing a light blue shirt.”

Inspector Amanda Kenny said: “I would ask the two men, or anyone who knows anything about this incident, to contact Cookstown Police Station on the non-emergency number 101.”

The NI Fire and rescue service who attended the scene, said they believed the vehicle was set on fire deliberately.

“One Fire Appliance from Cookstown Fire Station was deployed to the scene of a white transit van on fire in the area,” the NIFRS spokesperson said.

“The vehicle had overturned, which caused subsequent damage to trees and hedgerow in the area. One firefighter was treated at the scene for a sprained ankle injury.

“The incident finished at 9:15pm and is being treated as a deliberate fire.”
