Watch: Former RUC officer addresses Troubles symposium

Former RUC officer Roger McCallum delivered the keynote address at a symposium to address the Troubles in the Verbal Arts Centre on Thursday (October 2).

He was speaking at the event organised by the ‘Crows on the Wire’ Steering Group.

Mr McCallum served for 27 years in both the RUC and the PSNI retiring as a Superintendant in 2002.

Since this time Roger has continued his interest in wider criminal justice issues and has contributed to this sector in the UK, Europe and Asia, Pakistan and most recenlty in Nigeria.

Roger is a Trustee of the RUC George Cross Foundation, has served as a Governor at local integrated primary school and is an independent member of a Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) and is a member of the ‘Healing Through Remembering’ organisation.

Roger is also a member of the ‘Crows on the Wire’ Steering Group.

The symposium was hosted by veteran Belfast journalist, Henry McDonald.

It followed on from the hugely successful Crows on the Wire theatrical production – dealing with the human story behind the changeover from the RUC to PSNI – that toured across Northern Ireland last year.
