Watch out for 'Mystery Shopper' scam - police

MEMBERS of the public have been warned not to become involved in a scam involving a 'Mystery Shopper' offer over the internet.

According to Inspector David Anderson, a member of the public came forward with information regarding a call on a website inviting persons to place money in a specified bank account.

Before that, however, the caller has pledged to place money in the account of the person to whom the email has been sent.

“No money ever goes into the person’s account and we strongly advise people not to get involved. If it sounds too good to be true then it is too good to be true. Steer clear of these things,” Inspector Anderson warned.

He added it was probably best not to open the email at all.

“We are grateful to the person who alerted us to the scam. He was obviously alert to it.”
