Water mainsupgrade to cause traffic disruption

They said that as part of a £3.5 million investment in the area, work will start on the installation of a new watermain on the Hillhall Road on the 15th July with work expected to continue until December.

NI Water says there have been several bursts on the road in recent years, resulting in problems with the local water supply and repairs which cause delays for the travelling public.

Once the project is complete, it will reduce the number of bursts on the road while the upgraded watermains will improve the reliability and flexibility of water supply, drinking water quality and will also help reduce leakage.

The work has been planned to take place in the evenings to reduce disruption to residents and the travelling public, but it will mean the Hillhall Road will be closed from 8pm each evening (Sunday-Thursday) until 6am the following morning throughout the duration of the work.

Suggested diversion routes will the signposted via Drumbeg/Ballyskeagh Road. Access will also be maintained for residents at all times.

NI Water and its contractor Lagan Construction will complete letter drops in directly affected areas to advise residents of the ongoing work.

They thanked the travelling public and residents in advance for their ‘co-operation and their patience during this essential improvement work’.

It is likely there will be some traffic disruption in the area, due to road closure and increased traffic on other routes. There will also be some construction noise as the work progresses along the road and NI water said they would like to assure customers that every effort will be made to keep disruption and noise to a minimum.
