Watermain scheme set for town centre

THERE are more road works ahead for the town with a watermain scheme due to start.

In preparation for the winter months ahead, NI Water has identified a package of Watermains Improvement work required in Lurgan, Portadown, Dungannon and Caledon. This project represents an investment of approximately £1.8 million.

A lot of the current watermains in these areas are ageing and in poor condition and require urgent upgrading.

The upgraded watermains will improve the reliability of the water supply, drinking water quality and will also help reduce leakage.

Works will take place in the following areas: Malcolm Road including Ardboe Drive, Colban Crescent, Portlec Place, Trasna Way, Gracey Drive, Russell Drive and Kitchen Hill including Alexandra Crescent, Alexandra Square, Coronation St, Bridge St, Hill St, Mark St.

This programme of work will begin in mid-October 2012

It is anticipated the entire programme will be completed by the end of June 2013. Work in the town centre areas will comply with the Roads Service Christmas embargo and there will be a break in this work from the end of November until January 2013.

A spokesperson said: “NI Water and its contractor Farrans Construction would like to thank businesses, residents and road users in advance for their co-operation and patience during this essential improvement work.
