Waterside community link-up

A NEW project to establish further links between communities in the Waterside has been set up by the Waterside Area Partnership (WAP).

Liaison officer Louise Moore is liaising with different communities in the Waterside to work towards bringing everyone together under Waterside links.

Every month there will be an organised event and a trip to local and further afield points of interest including Stormont, Armagh and Dublin! The funding for these events is specifically for residents from across the Waterside area.

On Wednesday, February 24, the project had its first trip to the Guildhall with members from Lincoln Courts, Clooney, Tullyally, Irish Street, Bonds Street, Drumahoe, Maydown and the YMCA. They finished the day with lunch at the Multi Cultural Caf, Caf Del Mondo.

Waterside Links are hoping to hold a Tea Dance at the beginning of March, followed by trips to The Somme Heritage Centre in Newtownards and the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum, Cultra.

Louise Moore said: "I am hoping that this project will help break down the segregation in the Waterside area and that communities and groups of all ages can work together.

"These events are to bring people of all ages and from different backgrounds together and to learn to communicate with each other."
