Waterside double glazing work welcomed

SDLP Councillor Martin Reilly has welcomed the commencement of a programme of works by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive which will see double glazed windows installed in over 300 properties in the Lettershandoney and Gobnascale areas.

He said: “I welcome confirmation from the contractor responsible for carrying out this double glazing scheme that they have already started in Lettershandoney and anticipate work beginning in Gobnascale in early 2016.

“This is great news for the tenants of 326 Housing Executive properties in the Lettershandoney and Top of the Hill areas who will benefit from this programme of window replacement.

“Double glazed windows help reduce draughts, improve thermal efficiency and increase security. Indeed, substantial energy savings can be derived from the fitting of double glazed windows – with major effects both on a tenant’s fuel poverty and on Derry’s carbon footprint.

“This new programme of works will also help to reduce future maintenance and repair costs.

“I therefore welcome this much-needed investment from the Housing Executive which will help alleviate fuel poverty and ensure that tenants get the best value for money when heating their homes.”
