Waterside fire victim passes away

A WATERSIDE man critically injured in a fire at his home died on Friday evening just weeks after the incident at his Gobnascale home.

George Boyle was injured in the fire at Rose Court on September 14. It's thought the pensioner initially managed to make his way out of the blaze but returned in an effort to save his two pet dogs.

While neighbours then managed to get Mr Boyle out of the house the burns he sustained left him critically ill and the 74-year-old was transferred to Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital where he died last Friday evening.

A baker by trade, Mr Boyle spent a substantial proportion of his working life at the now closed Mother's Pride bakery on the Glen Road. An active and pleasant character Mr Boyle was described by all that knew him as a quiet and pleasant man. He had lived in the Gobnascale area for around 40 years. He was also an avid member of a local racing pigeon club.
