Waterside robbery ordeal

A Waterside shop assistant was left badly shaken after a robbery last Tuesday night.

Two men, who were unmasked and believed to be from the locality, entered the Spar shop on Chapel Road at around 10.55pm on Tuesday as staff were closing up for the night.

One of the robbers followed a female staff member behind the counter and grabbed bags of money before running off.

Acting manager Gemma Lynch said the member of staff was “badly shaken and frightened” by the raiders.

“One of the fellas came in and pushed the girl aside while the other held the door.”

It is believed that the men are known locally.

The man who grabbed the money is described as being in his early 20’s, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and of thin build. He had brown hair and was wearing a red and white top and grey tracksuit bottoms.

Police are investigating the raid and are urging anyone with information to contact them on 0845 600 8000 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800555 111.
