Watton: ‘I will forever remember Jim as a true friend’

Watton said: “Much has been said about Jim over the last few weeks.

“However unknown to many he worked tirelessly for young Loyalists from this area who ended up in prison during ‘The Troubles’.

“He was not one of those who made rabble rousing speeches and then walked away when the going got tough. Jim McClure, while never condoning violence, visited me constantly during my years of imprisonment and made quiet representations on my behalf and indeed for many others.

“It was a measure of the man that I was unaware of much of this until the day of the funeral. In passing my sincere condolences to his family, I will forever remember Jim as a true friend to his cause and country.
