Mr Ross said that the rural community still suffers from “painstakingly slow internet connections.”

He added: “These days, much of farming business is done online and because of an inadequate internet connection it is often lost or corrupted – much to the frustration of our farmers and their wives!

“Rural business is also handicapped due to the lack of suitable infrastructure.

“There are efforts in the UK to improve broadband access for the “Final Third”, and lobbying for better rural coverage will be a key focus during my forthcoming sitting as MP for East Londonderry.”
