Snow joke for motorists

The weather bomb left a little Friday morning gift for commuters - a light dusting of snow.

However, the snow had fallen on top of rain and hail showers which raged overnight, turning to ice as the temperature plummeted across the North West of the Province.

Particularly hard hit were the highland areas, where driving conditions were grim in places as patches of black ice or even frozen puddles were invisible to motorists, as this short video shows, when a 4x4 driven from Rushall Road onto Tullyally Road near Drumahoe, slips sideways on the carriageway due to hidden ice.

A three-week spell of chilly, unsettled weather is predicted over the Christmas and New year period, which may well effect driving conditions.
