WELB agrees to provide summer scheme

THE Western Education and Library Board has agreed to provide a Special School Summer Scheme for one week this summer.

During a meeting today, June 20, Board Members gave consideration to concerns that had been expressed regarding the recent adjustments to the Special School Summer Scheme.

As a consequence, the Board has agreed to provide a Summer Scheme for one week, with transport to and from the Scheme for those parents who wish to avail of it during this year.

At the meeting Board Members acknowledged the difficulties the withdrawal of transport presented to all those involved, and decided, in an attempt to harmonise with the provision by the NEELB and SEELB, to reinstate this element of the Scheme.

The Board emphasised the responsibility placed on it to live within its budget.

This, combined with the lateness of its allocation has created unprecedented pressures.

The Board hopes the public understand the challenges of dealing with 4.7m of cuts which will have to be implemented across services.
