Welcome for trailer marking event

Sinn Féin Councillor Colum Thompson has welcomed the trailer-marking event held in Carey last Saturday.

Councillor Thompson said: “The theft of farm and building machinery is on the rise right across the North and is happening on a more regular basis. The cost to local farmers and builders and the local economy has be extensive as work has to be delayed or postponed due to the theft.

“The event allowed owners of machinery to have their items clearly marked so that if they are stolen they can be traced and returned to the rightful owner.

“The event organised by the PSNI was well attended as were previous events held in Cushendall and highlights how seriously the rural community takes this issue.

“I would also encourage anyone who has not yet had their trailer marked and would like to avail of the scheme then please contact me on 0754 111 5105 or by e-mail [email protected]

Sinn Fein Glens Councillor Noreen McAllister added: “This is a fantastic scheme that is happening in the Glens and I would like to take this opportunity to also thank the local PSNI and to congratulate my party colleague Cllr Colum Thompson for organising this”

“I would like to take this opportunity to appeal to the public out there that wasn’t able to attend the event on Saturday, to contact Colum and move one step closer to combating rural crime.”
