Welcome for Waterside greenway development

REPRESENTATIVES from Enagh Youth Forum have welcomed an announcement that a new greenway project is to be built for the area.

The project which will connect the rural area to the city in an environmentally friendly way will compromise of a pedestrian walkway and cyle path.

Paul Hughes of Enagh Youth Forum said: “We would like to thank Sustrans, rapid and Derry City Council Access Officer Willie Burke for their work on this. The people of Strathfoyle and Maydown will benefit greatly when the walkway is completed as will all the citizens of Derry-Londonderry who then will be able to access Enagh Lough on foot or by bicycle as a result of this work.

“Although it was two years ago, it only seems like yesterday when ourselves and other local residents were meeting to ask why the greenway plan had not included Strathfoyle and Maydown. We are grateful that such speedy progress has been made and that new access

route will provide local people with  an alternative method of travelling in and out of town which is healthy, environmentally friendly and sustainable.
