Welfare and benefits advice day

THE Northern Ireland Phoenix Project is bring its Welfare Information Day to the Lagan Valley Island Centre on Thursday, October 4, from 11am to 2pm.

The event aims to bring together a number of relevant welfare and benefit agencies to provide ease of access to their services. The project exists to support the needs of former security service members who were affected by the Northern Ireland ‘Troubles’; the European Union’s PEACE III Programme has approved a second stage of funding until June 2014 to the Northern Ireland Phoenix Project.

With the growth of the project, there have been new activities introduced to the programme.

A Legacy Building and Archiving Project will bring together the experiences of a variety of serving and family backgrounds from all across Northern and the Border Region. This will culminate in the production of a book and DVD, with the addition of an exhibition being put together to travel around schools and youth clubs to raise awareness and educate the youth of today about the role of security service personnel during the Conflict. The project currently has offices in Omagh, Enniskillen, Newtownards, Moira, Armagh, Moygashel and Coleraine, with activities taking place Northern Ireland wide.
