Grainne White will swap the North Road location for Wells Cathedral School in Somerset.

Since the age of six, when she first started playing, Grainne has shown an aptitude for the violin.

In the last 10 years she has fine-tuned her skills and technique and she has taken part in a number of festivals, led several orchestras and ensembles and toured with different groups such as NYOGB (National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain) Inspire and The City of Belfast Youth Orchestra.

This year, as a result of meeting another very talented violinist at a NYOGB Inspire event, she was encouraged to apply for Wells Cathedral School, one of five specialist music schools in the UK.

In November past, Grainne auditioned and on Christmas Eve she received an email from the director of Music at Wells Cathedral School to congratulate her and say that they would like to offer her a place in September.

On top of this the school also stated that they would like to offer her a music scholarship for the two years that she will be attending.

Grainne says she will be sad to leave Carrickfergus Grammar, but with the school’s support for which she is truly grateful, she feels ready for the challenges that lie ahead and that this move will secure her future in music and give her the necessary tools for working with the best musicians in the UK for the many years to come.
