Went to collect husband from pub and stayed for a drink

When she went to collect her husband from the pub a 35-year-old woman decided to take a few drinks herself.

Tina Walsh, Eirford Park, Dromara, was banned from driving for 12 months last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court.

She was also fined £200 and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy for driving with excess alcohol in breath at Meeting Street, Dromore, on November 22.

The court heard that at 2.30am a car was seen driving in Market Street, Dromore, with no headlights on. Police followed the vehicle, which did put its lights on, and stopped it. Walsh, who was driving, said she was just picking up her husband from the pub.

There was a smell of alcohol on her breath and after failing an initial test an evidential breath test gave a reading of 62.

Her solicitor said she went to the pub to collect her husband and decided to stay and have a few drinks.

He explained that she booked a taxi but it didn’t turn up and she took the decision to drive. She had been driving for 18 years with no previous convictions and no points on her licence.
