"I have been texting his father Kenny, who used to work with us, to pass on all our congratulations.

"Graeme has been so good to us and every time he is home he comes up and takes a coaching session. It's great for the young lads and now they see what can be achieved through hard work and dedication.

"He is an inspiration to them all.

"It's quite fitting that we are playing against Belfast Inst in the McDowell Cup on Tuesday. Graeme donated this cup to the school and he had hoped to be here to present it to the winner, but I think he'll be a bit busy at the minute!

"Hopefully we can do him proud and win it."

The Principal at McDowell's former Primary School, Carnalridge in Portrush also praised the 30-year-old for his contribution to the school.

"Graeme has always have a very close relationship with the school," said Mr David Millar. "In fact he opened our new school on one of his visits home.

"We are all thrilled for him and hopefully on his next visit he'll have some silverware with him!"
