“We’ve achieved something amazing”

THE Coleraine woman behind the campaign to have a defibrillator installed at the Diamond Centre has thanked the people of Coleraine for their help.

The life saving equipment was installed in the Centre last week, following a training session for staff on how to use the portable defibrillator.

Speaking after the installation, Alison told The Times, “I am really delighted that it is finally in place.”

Alison decided to fundraise for the defibrillator after loosing her mum, June to a heart complaint.

She felt that putting her grief to good use would help her in the healing process. She tells: “ I wanted to show people that with just a bit of positivity and pro activeness that we could achieve anything we put our minds to.

“It was also something for me to focus my grief on and I hoped it would help me heal.

“It has only been 16 months since mum passed away and everything is still so fresh and raw that this was something positive for me.”

Looking back to the hard work Alison put in over the past few months, she added: “ Every phone call, email and conversation has been truly worth it.

“I could have never have done this without my dad Sam who has been amazing and my husband Scott.

“I have so many friends that supported me through this journey, but I would like to send a special thank you to Joanne Coyles and Louise Shaw.

Alison concluded: “ I just want to thank everyone who helped, whether it was with the door to door collection, the Diamond Centre collection and for the quiz.

“So many people donated, the list is just too long to name everyone.

“Everyone who came to the quiz, donated prizes and auction items will always hold a special place in my heart.

“In my heart now I will walk past our plaque and the defibrillator and I will know that mum is smiling down. She will love the fact that we all pulled together, and in my eyes achieved something amazing.”
