'˜We've had enough of students parking here'

The local residents are frustrated that despite requests being made to schools and the issue being raised with Lisburn City Council, nothing is being done to prevent the cars, which are believed to belong to students at local schools, from parking in the mainly residential area.

There are no yellow lines, neither single nor double, on the street and many older pupils who have started to drive their own cars are using the area to (quite legally) park during the school day.

This is certainly not a new issue in thesurrounding area.

However, recently a number of vehicles had notices placed on them telling them they were causing an obstruction on the road.

There were also suggestions from residents that a bin lorry or service vehicle was unable to access the local houses because of the cars parked along the stretch of road.

However, a spokesperson for Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council said that they were unaware of any difficulties with bin lorries or any other vehicles being able to make their way along Thornleigh Drive. The Council also said that it was in no way responsible for the notices that had been placed on the parked cars.

A spokesperson for Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council commented: “Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council can confirm that it did not erect any notices, nor put leaflets on any cars that may have been parked in the Thornleigh Drive area.

“Neither did it do so in any other area nor on any other vehicles.”
