What if next drugyacht is in NW?

DUP MLA Gregory Campbell says a new police superforce that hasn’t been extended to Northern Ireland yet due to nationalist opposition should be, lest we are faced with a massive drugs shipment off Malin Head rather than Mizen Head, such as that recently seized by the Irish Navy.

He made the comments during a debate on the non-implementation of the National Crime Agency (NCA) at Stormont.

“Much mention was made of the case within the past fortnight of the yacht that was seized off the coast of the Irish Republic,” he said.

“With the assistance of the National Crime Agency, the Government of the Irish Republic were able to apprehend the yacht and, as a result, save thousands of people’s lives.

“What happens if the next yacht is identified off the coast of Londonderry, Ballycastle or Larne? What happens then? What happens if there are thousands, millions or maybe tens of millions of pounds of illegal drugs on board a vessel off the coast of our shores and we are told, ‘We’ve got sufficient resources in place to deal with some things, but that’s an operation that will require the NCA?’”
