What's in a name?

AS the new Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre on Main Street nears completion, Limavady Borough Council have been discussing suitable names for the individual rooms and spaces within the project.

At the developmental meeting held at the council Chamber on Tuesday April 13, councillors sought to agree on names which referenced the history and Culture of Limavady.

Nine rooms and spaces in all were discussed after suggestions were forwarded, each with their own specific theme with regards to the history of the town.

It was suggested that the Main Multi-purpose hall should be named after Limavady's most famous daugher, Jane Ross, as the Jane Ross Auditorium, while other suggested names for other rooms included; The McCurry Room, named for the Blind fiddler Jimmy McCurry, The Roeside Gallery and The Benbradagh room.

The story of Jane Ross, the Blind Fiddler and the Londonderry Air, will be a major theme throughout the centre as in addition to naming rooms after them, a carpet has also been commissioned for the ground floor of the building depicting just how one of the most famous songs in all the world had its origins in Limavady.

Another carpet depicting Colmcille's journey by boat to Drumceatt has also been commissioned.
