What’s next for fUSe?

With full-time broadcasting rights granted, what’s next for Ballymoney fUSe FM?

Jonnie Crawford, fUSe FM’s PR and Press Officer said: “The next three years will see fUSe fm face various challenges including funding the station to keep it broadcasting amongst current cuts in the public and voluntary sectors as well as ongoing improvements to the station and its output.

‘When we applied for the licence in 2012, we only thought that was the hardest part, but is wasn’t until we began putting the wheels in motion for a full time broadcast that we realised how much work running a Community Radio Station, but we are up for the challenge and I’m very confident that the project will succeed.

“We have both a strong management committee and more importantly a strong volunteer team, without whom, the station wouldn’t exist.”

The full time broadcast sees new presenters and new shows take to the air waves including local group CAN who will present a weekly community interest show, hosted by CAN employees Silvia McCaughey (CAN co-ordinator) and Linda McKendry (CAN manager)with members of CAN guest presenting each week.

Silvia said: “CAN Base Ballymoney are thrilled to be hosting the Community slot on fUSe fm every Wednesday from 12 until 2. We are so excited to be involving local people with learning disabilities in broadcasting with fUSe fm, and are looking forward to getting the community engaged with our programme!”

All the work to date would only be possible thanks to the wide audience base and to the local businesses who advertise with the station.

“This summer fUSe fm would ask the local North Antrim community to support us as they launch full time and to interact with the station as much as possible,” continued Jonnie.

“They have a wide and variety show output from 60’s up to current day music, with specialist shows such as American and Irish Country to the piping scene and band culture.

“The station will also have local community news and events sections which will help promote activities in the area plus guest interviews each week. The station is community driven and we are always keen to find new presenters and volunteers to help with the station.”
