Speaking after meeting with Senior Management at Translink Mr. Givan said: “Over the years one of the issues that is consistently raised with me is the need for bus shelters to provide cover for people using public transport, especially young people going to school and our older population. Since 2010 there has been no bus shelters erected anywhere in Lisburn and when representation was made the response was always negative because the contract to erect new bus shelters was entirely independent of Translink.

“This has now changed and Translink is taking much greater control of the issue and I have been given assurances that new bus shelters will be established.”

In Windermere the bus stop is located beside the Housing Fold in Lillie Court and the residents have been calling for a bus shelter for a number of years.

“I have asked for Windermere and other areas to be a priority because of the representation I have received but I would appeal to the public to contact my office or Translink directly if they need a bus shelter as a list is being drawn up for consideration,” Mr Givan said.

Chairman of the Thursday Club, Richard Haggan, that meets in Lillie Court said: “We have been calling for a bus shelter to be erected for many years and a petition was collected.

“We are supporting the campaign because our residents in Lillie Court and Winderemere are left exposed to the elements and it puts people off using the bus.”
