Whiteabbey to get 49 new park and ride spaces

Transport NI is aiming to encourage more people to consider using public transport, helping to reduce congestion on the road network.

Mr Kennedy stated: “There is a growing demand for Park and Ride facilities as an increasing number of people choose public transport for their daily commute to work and for leisure purposes.

“The popularity of public transport reflects the success brought about by my Department’s investment in our bus and train services over recent years and it demonstrates my ongoing commitment to encourage sustainable travel.

“During the last two years over 1,300 new Park & Ride spaces have been created, bringing the total number of Park & Ride spaces to over 7,600.”

In addition to the spaces at Whiteabbey the planned park and ride projects include the creation of a new rail-based 110 space facility in Cullybackey and and 46 spaces in Ballymoney.

Figures released by the Department in October last year show that the majority of Park and Ride sites are now over 90 per cent occupied on a daily basis.
