Whitehead Operation Purple boost for Children’s Hospice

Whitehead Summer Festival-goers have helped to raise over £6.5k for the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospital.

The money was presented to the charity by representatives of the community following Operation Purple during July and August.

The total of £6612.66 was raised at a series of events tied in with the popular summer programme in the seaside town.

Whitehead Golf Club raised £3025.24 with a Charity Golf Day and Whitehead Presbyterian Church coffee morning realised £1055.00

Whitehead businesses, organisations, individuals and festival events raised £2532.42. This included Lourdes and St Patrick’s Church of Ireland hosting coffee mornings, ladies on the Whitehead Art Trail helping by selling handmade cards and tea and scones, Victoriana Floral Boutique selling purple posies, Wright Spar Edward Rd having a fun day, Whitehead Home & Hardware organising a ballot and The Bank House’s ‘Guess The baby’.

Furthermore, Fosters Fruit N Veg, McKee’s Bakery and Whitehead Nursing Home all raised over £100 .

“So all in all a lot of effort from the whole community to help a very deserving cause,” the festival committee stated.

Catherine O’Hara, on behalf of Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice, thanked the festival organisers and the wider community for their support.

She said: “We were absolutely delighted to be placed at the heart of the community and a very successful festival fortnight. The generosity and support of Whitehead will make such a life changing difference to our children and their families.

“We simply could not provide the service we do both at the hospice and in the homes of our life-limited children and young people without the support and generosity of our local community.”
