‘Why weren’t we told?’ asks grandparent

THE grandmother of a child at Parkview Special School has asked why parents were not told of the child cruelty case being taken against a teacher there.

She said: “I was shocked that such a thing could happen in the first place and saddened that {a press report} is how we find out that such incidents could possibly have occurred.”

She felt the school should have informed parents before the matter became public knowledge.

Principal Mr James Curran responded: “As the matter was an ongoing police investigation I was instructed by the Legal Department of the South Eastern Education and Library Board (SEELB) to refrain from discussing this matter with anyone other than SEELB personnel.

“As a new Principal and not involved in the initial investigation I am waiting on further advice from the SEELB.”
