“This is a terribly frightening incident, particularly for the staff members involved. This is a major retail area for the town and at this time of year in particular the area would have been quite busy, so I would urge anyone who has any information to please contact the PSNI,” he said.

Sinn Fein Councillor John McNamee also appealed for information saying: “I condemn those responsible for this robbery, it must have been a terrifying experience for staff and I would call for anyone with information to come forward.

“Unfortunately at this time of year shops and also homes are open to this type of theft and I would encourage anyone to report anything suspicious and to keep an eye on neighbours.”

DUP MLA Ian McCrea added his condemnation saying: “I was disgusted to hear of this robbery. Thankfully no one was harmed and I assure the staff that they are in my thoughts following this ordeal. It is extremely important that witnesses come forward and contacting police immediately.”
