Widow's words for husband remembered

THE poignant words spoken by Constable Stephen Carrol's grieving widow Kate have become the inspiration for a song written and performed by UK singer David Ford.

The song simply titled Stephen will feature on Ford’s album Let the Hard Times Roll to be released next month.

Ford was inspired to pen the song after hearing Kate being interviewed on Radio Five, he said: “ I found what she said deeply moving. She was obviously angry about it but at the same time not talking in terms of vengeance or retribution.”

Every line of the song begins with Stephen’s name and is based around Kate’s comments, David said: “It's like a letter to Stephen from Kate, I am really glad that Kate is okay with it I wouldn’t pretend to know what she is going through so it meant a great deal to me as the writer to get her approval for the song.”

Kate Carroll said: “ I first heard it on U Tube and it is a beautiful song, it breaks my heart that it is my Steve he is singing about but it is something that will keep his memory alive which means the world to me.”
