Wilde night in store at Historical Society meeting

IT is not generally known that the family of Oscar Wilde, the author and playwright, resided in, and was influential in the life of Downpatrick, way back in the late 18th. and early 19th centuries.

Maurice Cassidy, a well-known historian from Downpatrick, has studied the local connection with the Wilde family going back to those early years when they were influential in setting up schools in the area and undertaking other community projects.

He will give an illustrated talk to Banbridge Historical Society on the Wilde family on Thursday, October 4 at 7.30pm in the recently refurbished Banbridge Old Town Hall, Scarva Street.
