Willie's Orphan Fund to benefit from Spuds reunion night

THIS Friday brings a chance to rock and roll down memory lane with a Spuds Reunion night!

The sounds of the iconic Portstewart club will be recreated in the Retro Bar in Portrush this Friday (August 20th) with music by the fantastic Xdreamysts who are reforming for one night only.

And, the gig will also have a very special function - to raise awareness and money for Willie Gregg's Orphan Fund.

Portrush man Willie set up the charity Willie's Orphan Fund after the Boxing Day Tsunami in Thailand to care for some of the hundreds of children who were orphaned by the catastrophe.

The children are now well cared for in an orphanage and Willie continues to fundraise for their educational needs.

The orphans love to sing and dance and during his many visits there, Willie taught the kids his favourite song "Stay the Way You Are" by none other than the Xdreamysts.

"That has always been my absolute favourite song since Uel Walls wrote it all those years ago," Willie told the Times.

"The orphans are well cared for now and the idea behind teaching them the song is that, we want to keep them safe but we don't want them to change.

"So Stay the Way You Are was the perfect song. I love it and I honestly believe that the song should have been a massive hit."

And the Xdreamysts hit is now being used as the soundtrack to a video showing the work the Orphan Fund is doing.

You can check out the video on the website www.williesorphanfund.com

"I'm delighted that all the guys will be showing a video of the kids singing the Xdreamysts' song on the night at the Spuds reunion," said Willie.

"I am so disappointed that I can't be there in person but am really chuffed that they will also be making a donation to the fund."

As well as the Xdreamysts, there will also be music from Axis, Toadie and special guests.

It's sure to be one of the musical highlights of the year.
