Willow weaver Louise at Donegore Craft Fair

LOUISE McLean, the award-winning willow sculptress from Portrush will be one of the star attractions at a craft fair at the Landscape Centre in Donegore this Saturday.

It is the first time Louise has been invited to display her work and demonstrate her skills at a garden centre and she is looking forward to it.

“I can’t wait. Willow-weaving is a craft which should lend itself to this setting. I will be bringing along some of my work but I will have to think of something special to make on the day,” she said.

Louise hasn’t looked back since winning the Northern Ireland section of ‘Britain’s Craftiest Person’, an X Factor style competition run by the ‘This Morning’ Programme. Presenter Fern Britton bought her 3ft candle holder on live television.

In December she will going to New Zealand to take part on a cross cultural workshop, sharing her craft skills and learning new techniques from a flax weaver.

“As craftspeople we are always learning new skills from other people and I am looking forward to what should be a fascinating experience,” she added.

The Country Craft Fair in Donegore begins at 11am and ends at 4.30pm. For more information visit www.donegore.com
