Mrs Wilson, who won the final seat on Coast Road, takes over the mantle from Ald McKee, who has served on Larne Borough Council for over 40 years.

Ald McKee will be stepping down from local politics when the Mid and East Antrim Council comes into being next April.

Mr Allister paid tribute to Ald McKee for his “phenomenal record” and “diligent service”, adding: “To be able to pass the baton on to a new TUV standard-bearer is very gratifying for us and for him.

“The people of Larne will be the poorer for him no longer serving them from next year onwards, but Ruth is there to pick up where he left off.”
